WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR LIFE EXPECTANCY

Life expectancy is the number of years one is expected to live . It represents average life span of a new born and is an indicator of over all health of a country . It varies in different parts of the world due to the different conditions of health , care and nutrition .

 
SEX DIFFERENCE
Death rate in the women is less as compared to men .
It may be due to the following causes
Men are most commonly involved in tobacco smoking , alcoholism and drugs .
There are more chances of male death in car accidents and wars .
 
They have more tendency of suicide .
 Women have better immunity than men .
CAUSES OF DECREASED LIFE EXPECTANCY
Obesity
It decreases life expectancy of about 3-9 months .
Cigratte smoking
It decreases life expectancy of about 13-14 years .
 
HOW TO INCREASE THE LIFE EXPECTANCY
Exposing yourself to sun and vitamin D .
Reducing obesity .
Reducing tobacco smoking .
Avoiding smoking in a closed space .
Eating healthy diet .
Avoiding junk foods .
Taking fruits and vegetables .             
Regular exercise .
Indulging children into games and sports .
Taking regular sleep .
Relaxing yourself  .
Stay optimistic .

SMOKING AND LUNG CANCER

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death in the world . Smoking is the main contributor to lung cancer . Cigarette smoke contains more than 40 poisonous chemicals . And the risk of developing lung cancer is directly related to the number of cigarettes smoked . King filter cigarette is the most dangerous as it has a high tar content . There are many other cancers besides lung which result from cigarette smoking , which include  an increase incidence of oral , pharyngeal and esophageal cancer .

 CAUSES
Cigarette smoking
Passive smoking means inhalation of the smoke by some body who is not smoking himself
Asbestos may also cause lung cancer
Radon gas may also cause cancer


SIGNS
Difficulty in breathing
Blood in sputum
Prolong cough
Chest pain
Weight loss
Anorexia
Fatigue
Change in voice
Difficulty in swallowing

PREVENTION
Quit smoking
Avoid cigarette smoke by staying away from smokers
Inform other people about it’s risks through media and mass campaigns

SILICOSIS : COMMONEST OCCUPATIONAL LUNG DISEASE


Silicosis is a disease of lungs which which caused by inhalation of silica dust . Silica dust enters the lungs and cause silicosis . It is the commonest occupational lung disease . People of certain professions are more prone to silicosis like mine workers , making mud utensils and ceramic workers. Huge amount of silica dust results in development of silicosis within an year while slow inhalation may result in the disease in 15-20 years .

Making mud utensils
Sand blasting
Stone cutting
Abrasive manufacturing
Enviornmental factors

SIGNS
Cough
Fatigue
Difficulty in breathing
Fever

Avoid silica dust
Control of silica dust by dry air filtering or water spray
Stopping smoking in people who are exposed to silica dust
Use of mask by those people who are exposed to silica dust

SMOKING : HARD TO BREAK , A KILLER

Smoking is a hard habit to break because tobacco contains nicotine , which is highly addictive . Like other addictive drugs body and mind gets used to it . Most of the adults who start smoking in their teens never expect that they would get addicted to it .
Smoking kills about 114,000 people in UK each year . The products that are most damaging are
Tar a carcinogen (substance that causes cancer )
Nicotine is addictive and increases cholesterol levels in your body 
Carbon mono oxide which reduces oxygen in the body .

EXTENT OF DAMAGE
The damage caused by smoking is influenced by

The number of cigarettes smoked .
Whether the cigarette has a filter (the king size filter cigerrates deliver more tar and nicotine than ordinary one so are more dangerous .
How the tobacco has been prepared .

SMOKING IN KIDS
Smoking is one of the worst things kids or adults can do to their bodies . yet every day about 3,900 teens start smoking .
